Settling In

If I forget about the ER visit, the jet lag and horrible sleep, and the colds, I would say we've had a pretty good week getting settled in.  By about the fifth or sixth day, we were actually on somewhat of a schedule with Bailey and Bakha sleeping through the night and Bailey taking naps.  Bailey pretty much acts like she's always been here.  Although I've been very careful about keeping it simple, we've been swimming a few times, we went to Nan and Boba's, and we even ventured to the library yesterday.  Other than that, we've been sticking very close to home.

Even though I know the language will come quickly for someone with no apparent speech/language difficulties, I've been hitting it hard nonetheless.  Bailey tends to whine and grunt a lot when she wants something, but as soon as she has the word for it, she's pretty good at using it.  She probably has a 30 word vocabulary now, and about 15 signs (some of which are the same as words she says).  She can count to 7, correctly say "yellow" and "triangle" and she sings lots of songs, both in Mandarin and English.  She loves letters, and when I asked her to sign Nan's birthday card, she correctly wrote an "i" in with her scribbles (although she called it "l").

Here are some pictures from the week.  Just being cute:

And I can't resist adding these pictures that I randomly took this week.  As soon as I saw them back, I had a deja vu, so I had to go look through pictures from six years ago, and sure enough, I found some very similar ones!

  1. So glad things are finally starting to feel a little more routine! Hopefully that helps everyone settle in a bit. I am so touched to see the pictures with the girls. How is Bahka adjusting to her new life?

  2. Hey, this is Crystal . . . I love your blog and all your photos! I especially like the one of Bakha and Bailey sitting at the table reading - it looks like Bakha is drinking her morning cup of coffee. Is she reading Calvin and Hobbes? Thanks for sending us the link to your blog!
